Call For Support For The Bishop of Scranton

I am asking all of my faithful Catholics in the blogosphere to please bring this issue to light in your blogs.

Bishop Martino of the Diocese of Scranton has courageously called on Senator Casey of PA (a Catholic) to stop his support of Abortion. In particular, Senator Casey voted against an amendment brought by Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) that would have reinstated the Mexico City Policy rescinded by President Obama on January 23rd.

Bishop Martino wrote to Senator Casey:
“Your failure to reverse this vote will regrettably mean that you persist formally in cooperating with the evil brought about by this hideous and unnecessary policy,” says the Bishop."

Bishop Martino also has harsh words for Misericordia University(a Catholic College in PA) for their actions in bringing Mr. Keith Boykin, a graduate of Harvard Law School He is the former Executive Director of the National Black Gay & Lesbian Leadership Forum, and the author numerous books promoting the homosexual agenda, to speak as part of their Diversity Institute. Misericordia University responded "Misericordia University is committed deeply to its Catholic mission. Inseparable from that mission is our identity as an academic institution where ideas and positions are explored critically and freely."

For those wishing to honor pro-choice politicians during Scranton's St. Patrick celebration the Diocese of Scranton says:

"In a letter dated February 6th, John Dougherty, the auxiliary Bishop of Scranton asked the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Lackawanna County to not "honor" pro-abortion officials. Bishop Martino will deny Holy Communion to any pro-abortion elected official. The bishop says he'll even close St. Peter's Cathedral or any catholic church in the diocese for masses associated with the holiday celebration *and* honor those elected officials."

Check out this news clip from NBC affiliate WBRE in Wilkes-Barre, supposed Catholics. It's absurd.

It is my belief that we, as Catholics faithful to the Magisterium of the Church, should support Bishop Martino and all leaders in the Church who uphold Her teachings. If you agree, please email or write a letter of support to the Bishop of Scranton, the United States Council of Catholic Bishops, and your local diocesan Bishop.

The recent statement of The Holy Father to Speaker Pelosi is a clear call to all Catholics for action and prayer. We must support our priests and bishops who remain faithful to Church teaching in the face of great adversity.

Before his election to the Papacy, Cardinal Ratzinger wrote very clearly on the subject of pro-choice politicians receiving The Eucharist in his letter "Worthiness to Receive Holy Communion".

"Regarding the grave sin of abortion or euthanasia, when a person’s formal cooperation becomes manifest (understood, in the case of a Catholic politician, as his consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws), his Pastor should meet with him, instructing him about the Church’s teaching, informing him that he is not to present himself for Holy Communion until he brings to an end the objective situation of sin, and warning him that he will otherwise be denied the Eucharist."
