that Spring is on the way!
My birdie is back. I love this bird. I've never seen it, it likes to sing only at night and early morning and stays quiet during the day. I love sitting on the back porch at night and listening to the songs. Or waking up in the early am to watch the sunrise and there he is. Beautiful. He's the Chuck-will's-widow.

enjoy your spring. We are headed to autumn here and the nights are getting cold. I just went to pick up my son and thought I really should have a jumper on.
Interesting bird. If you haven't seen it, how do you know it's that one? Just curious. You know me and my love of birds. The loon is the weirdest - the sound they make is kinda spooky.
What I meant was, how did you finally identify it? How many bird calls did you have to hear before you nailed it down to Chuck. Thanks.
Sarah,
The song is very distinctive and we knew it was a type of whipoorwill so we started going through the nightjar species and found it pretty quickly. It's just neat to hear.
