The First Sorrowful Mystery

As I was praying the Rosary today and meditating on the Sorrowful mysteries, I thought of Jesus in the garden. In agony. Agony. AGONY. I looked that up on dictionary.com (cause it's fast) and here's the definition of agony:

extreme and generally prolonged pain; intense physical or mental suffering

Then I thought, why was He in such agony? So much pain that His sweat was like blood. What could make that happen? What did He know? My thoughts were coming fast now, and I was almost done with the decade..He knew about us! Now! He knew He would have to die for us..and we would not recognize His sacrifice. In fact, we would continue on in our sin as if nothing had ever happened. Yeah, we say we are saved and all that, but we continue in our sin. Then I thought of the millions of abortions, the genocides, the holocausts, our selfishness and greed. He knew. He saw this. No wonder His sweat was drops of blood.

Lord, forgive us. We know not what we do.

Jeremiah 5:21 'Now hear this, O foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see; Who have ears but do not hear.

I have had this exact same thought before. Someone once said to me that in the Garden He felt the weight of every single sin, of every single person, on His shoulders. How much He loves us to suffer and die for these sins that he knew were to come! How miserable we are in our sin. How great is His mercy!
