"Kindle" The Love of Reading

Amazon just created the perfect Christmas gift for your favorite bookie.

It's called the Amazon Kindle. "A convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. At 10.3 ounces, Kindle is lighter and thinner than typical paperbacks, and fits easily in one hand. Its built-in memory stores hundreds of titles. An optional SD memory card lets you hold even more. From Melville to Morrison, your favorite authors can always be with you."

Okay, what about the glare? Reading a computer screen is hard on the eyes you know?

"Utilizing a new high-resolution display technology called electronic paper, Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white screen that resembles the appearance and readability of printed paper. The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. It reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room. The screen never gets hot so you can comfortably read as long as you like."

Think of the possibilites for homeschoolers! Download classics for as little as 50 cents! No more heavy backpacks! They can bookmark, highlight and make notes as they read right on the screen. It's pricey, but I've spent more on a gaming system and games.

My sister just got one of these for her birthday and she called me right away to tell me how wonderful it is. The Reviews online (5,000 so far) praise it. This sounds like a great gift for the book lover in your life.

Holy Hannah! I'll pass when it's $359 per system. I don't think I'd like holding up one of those gadgets anyway. I'd miss the feel and smell of novels too much.

I hate technology! :-(

Dawn-I got on of these for my birthday. I LOVE IT!!! It is so convenient and very easy on the eyes. My hubby got it on sale for $270. Still pricey but well worth it!

Glad to hear it Therese! I'm sure they'll be some good prices as it gets closer to Christmas. You can put the entire Bible plus a few saint bio's on this and it fits in your purse! I've already told the hubby to keep his eyes out for a sale.
JOT - it's nice to have a good fiction book at home on the couch, but this would be nice on the go.
I know it's pricey, but looking at the stack of video games and the system to play them on, I've paid double that already.

My Kindle is great! I often spend hours in the bookstore and leave with empty pockets. The initial investment is high but it pays for itself when you load it with books. I already have a small library going and it has cost me about 25 dollars.
I have Common Catholic Prayers, Scott Hahn's book on confession, A free book call the the Reincarnationist, A calendar, A Dan Simmons novel, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and the Kindle User Guide. It's small and convenient to carry around. No more sitting somewhere without anything to do. It's a great product I would recommend to anyone - especially to parents with children who are struggling readers. They can look up words with an onboard dictionary, make notes and highlight. You can also load audio books to read along. I forsee this thing in highschools replacing textbooks. GO GET ONE NOW!
